Doctrinal Statement We believe in: The full inspiration of Scripture as containing and being the Word of God. (2 Tim 3:15; 2 Pet 1:20-21). The inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture The unity of the Godhead and the co-equality of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Gen 1:26; 2 Cor 13:14). The creation of man in the image of God (Gen 1:26-28). The fall of man resulting in guilt, total depravity, separation from God and subjection to His wrath (Rom 5:12-19). The necessity of being born again (John 3:1-7). The existence of Satan (Job 1:6,9,12), his present control of the ungodly (Eph 2:1-3) and opposition to the Triune God, His Word and His people (1 Pet 5:8; Eph 6:12). The true and proper Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His real and perfect Manhood (John 1:1-5; 1 John 5:20), the authority of His teaching and the infallibility of all His utterances (Matt 7:29; John 7:46). The justification of the sinner soley by faith in the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (Rom 3:20-24; 5:16-18). The true Deity and full personality of the Holy Spirit. (2 Cor 13:14; John 15:26). The universal Church, the Body of which Christ is the Head to which all believers belong. (John 17:20-21; Eph 1:22-23). The ordinance of believers' baptism, not conveying regeneration. (Matt 3:13-16; Acts 2:41). The Lords Supper as He instituted, not as a sacrifice for sin nor involving any change in the substance of the elements. (Matt 26:26-28; 1 Cor 23:-31). The personal visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in great glory and power. )Matt 24:30;1 Thes 4:16-17). The resurrection of the body (John 5:28-29), the judgement of the world by the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet 3:7). The eternal security and blessedness of the redeemed (1 Thes 4:17) and the eternal punishment of the wicked (Matt 25:46; Rev 20:15). All Scripture references are taken from the Authorised Version of the Bible. Why
we prefer the King James Version of the Bible over modern translations First
of all we do not belong to the King James Onlyism camp.
We do accept however that there are copyists’ errors in the manuscripts
but none which would adversely affect the Word of God as originally inspired and
written.
The
King James Version was translated from what is commonly known as the Textus
Receptus or Received
Text and was translated as near word for word as is possible when translating
from one language to another.
There are often idioms contained in languages which do not translate
directly and also some words carry a breadth of meaning which is also difficult
to translate literally.
When this has arisen the translators put in extra words in italics to
give the fullest possible meaning in English. However,
modern critics have undermined the original truths of the Bible by altering both
the Greek from which modern translations have been taken and also paraphrasing,
i.e. putting in their idea of what the writers of the manuscripts were trying to
convey. This
has resulted in a great diversity of renderings of different Scriptures which
has opened the door to erroneous doctrines being promulgated.
Some of these erroneous doctrines affect the Deity, the Person and work
of the Lord.
In the NIV there are important verses relating to salvation completely
missed out while in the NKJV words have been changed or their order changed so
that the meaning is different. If
you are interested in knowing more about the modern translations and how they
are designed to lead us away from the truth as laid down in the Received Text
then order a copy of our booklet ‘Beware – is the Bible in your hand really
the Word of God?’ price £1 plus postage.
We also have several leaflets dealing with the separate translations
available at a small extra charge. As
we seek to walk the straight and narrow path we believe the Authorised Version
of the Bible is still the best, despite the sometimes archaic language.
The more you read it the more you become used to these words.
The Holy Spirit gives understanding where needed.
