Matt. 8:24-27;  Luke 8:22-25

I woke up the other morning with these words on my heart 'suddenly they were at the shore.'   It was in relation to the miracle quoted in the two Gospels above when the Lord was asleep in the stern of the boat while the disciples were battling the storm and the ship was taking in water.

Naturally they were afraid and thought they were going to drown so they woke the Lord.   He rebuked the storm and then chastened them for their lack of faith.

With the present financial situation in the world it is so easy to be afraid.   So many people are in serious financial trouble because of the lack of credit available and it would seem that the 'storm' will overcome them.

However, as Christians we must never lose sight of the fact that the Lord is in life's boat with us.   It may seem that He is asleep in the stern and not aware of what is going on but we know from the book of Job that He is very aware.

Sometimes He does leave us apparently on our own to see how we fare and to teach us to rely totally on Him, even for our daily food.

If we are so afraid that we cannot see the wood for the trees we will not be aware of the Lord's presence in the background, although He is still there.   It will cause us unnecessary stress and suffering if we are so full of anxiety and worry that we cannot trust Him.   Peter tells us that perfect love casts out all fear;   not just some of it but all of it.

It is very hard to trust when it seems as if everything is going against us and we are going to drown but if we really love the Lord with all of our heart, mind and soul we will be able to trust Him, regardless of what our circumstances are and suddenly we shall find ourselves at the shore and in calm waters; hopefully having learned from the experiences we have been through.
